An adorable octopus and a classic whodunnit, Disney and Waitrose bring in the holiday joy with its well-told stories
Disney’s Christmas release, The Boy and The Octopus, is an enchanting tale of an unlikely friendship and the joy of discovering it in unexpected places.

The film follows a boy and an animated gooey-eyed octopus, whom he unexpectedly encounters on a seaside holiday. He introduces his new friend to life on land, neatly hidden below a Mickey Mouse beanie, and eventually sends him off to discover his dream of exploring the world with Santa.
It embodies all the brand elements, weaving in a lightsaber, a Buzz Lightyear action figure and a map of Santa’s route around the world. The soundtrack: an orchestral rendition of Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid.
Created by adam&eveDDB and the VFX experts at Untold Studios, the film is directed by Taika Waititi through Hungry Man UK. The award-winning filmmaker brings humour and warmth to the storytelling, making this one of the best holiday films this year.
Another holiday treat – and the only other contender for 'the best holiday film' so far – is Waitrose’s much-discussed Sweet Suspicion: A Waitrose Mystery, released last week. This two-part whodunnit from the British supermarket chain sets up the mystery of a missing dessert at a superbly-cast family Christmas dinner.
Here’s part one. We eagerly await the unraveling of this mystery in part two. Who could be the dessert thief? My bet is on the cat! :)
