The only striking element of Julie Delpy’s drama-comedy series on Netflix is its packaging design
Four friends in their forties – an heiress, a chef, a single mom and a job seeker – based in Los Angeles, deal with love, work and mid-life crisis. On The Verge, created, written and directed by actor Julie Delpy, could have been a fantastic series, but its script is underdeveloped and two of its lead characters, miscast. There is a touch of French absurdity and humour, but those moments are few and far between. There’s so much potential for an idea like this. Alas! It’s almost on the verge, I suppose.
What I did appreciate though, was the paper cut, stop motion opening montage and its beautiful track – Oregano by Chilly Gonzales. Watch it here:
